Black and Brown Autistic Experiences
The autistic space on social media (Twitter, TikTok, Insta, etc.) is very white (including me), and as such, often erases the experience of Black and Brown autistic people around the world. Here in the US, Black children are suspected of criminal intention or misbehaving for simply being autistic, or deaf or otherwise disabled and failing to respond to authority in an acceptable manner. I’m really glad to see Black voices rising on Twitter, helping to form a community of support, and slowly erase the stigma of autism in the Black community. I welcome additions. Here in their voices:
